Maryville University Legal Association
Article I
Name
The name of this student organization shall be Maryville University Legal Association
Article II
Purpose
The purpose of this association is to promote understanding of the United States legal system by increasing exposure to the court systems and engaging students in discussions on various topics of social justice.
Article III
Members

Section 4
Active members shall be matriculates of the Maryville University with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Associate members shall be faculty or staff and are not eligible to hold office or vote.
Annual dues of $5.00 shall be paid by the members each year.
Membership shall not be denied to any individual on the basis of race, color, national origion, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability.

The officers of the assocition shall be named the president and the secretary/treasurer. These officers shall perform the duties as prescribed by the constitution and by-laws and by the parliamentary authority adopted by the organization.
The Officers shall be nominated at the first meeting of April with elections held the following meeting. Elections shall be done by secret ballot and candidates receiving the most votes shall be named to their respective offices.
Officers shall serve a term of one year.
Vacancies in offices shall be filled by nomination and voting of a quorum of members.
Officers must have compiled at least twelve (12) credit hours at the Maryville University.
Officers must currently be enrolled in the day or Weekend Evening College program at the Maryville University.
Officers shall not be on disciplinary or academic probation.

The regular meetings of the organization will be held on the third Monday of each month.
Special meetings may be called by the president or the Executive Committee and shall be called with at least three days notice.
Fifty-one percent (51%) of the members of the organization constitute a quorum.
Article VI
Relationship
Maryville University Legal Association shall have no relationship or be controlled by any other local, state or national organization.
Article VII
Activities
The association shall hold regular business meetings with invited topics of interest
Article VIII
Committees
The Executive Committee shall include the officers of the organization and shall be considered a standing committee. They shall supervise affairs of the association between its business meetings, make recommendations to the organization and perform other duties as specified by in the Constitution and by-laws.
Other committees, standing or special shall be appointed by the President.
Article IX
Advisor
The Director of Legal Studies shall serve as the advisor to the organization
Article X
Parliamentary Procedure
The rules contained in the current edition of the Robert's Rules of Order will be followed at each meeting.
Article XI
Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting of the organization by two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment was submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting.
Upcoming Events
LEX Honor Society Inductions will be March 20, 2011. Mark your calendars.
Members of MULA enjoy a trip to the Thomas Eagleton Federal Courthouse in St. Louis in October 2009. Students met with federal judges, were able to watch a portion of a trial, a sentencing and meet with U.S. Marshals. The courthouse is the largest courthouse in the country. Special thanks to advisory board member Christine BredenKoetter, Jeanne Pattrin and Dean Dan Sparling for making the day possible.
Dana Kujawa from Greensfelder, Hemker and Gale Law Firm came to speak to our students about litigation support including the use of Sanction and Trial Director trial presentation software.

Kaplan testing came to Maryville in October to administer a free practice LSAT exam for all interested students.
